I spotted just a bit of white mold on one of my boxes in my safe. So I was taking everything out and wiping down the boxes and everything having a look in general, when I came across a particular box from The Royal Mint ("The 400th Anniversary of the Voyage of the Mayflower"). The exterior box material is now horrifically rough and looks weird and eaten away, and I believe it to be the source of the problem. I am going to throw it (what the actual black box slides into) into the trash. Anyone experience this before?
Edit: also the 2019 Pride of Two Nations Limited Edition Two-Coin Set box exterior sleeve was looking nutritious, and when I wiped it, the corners took damage, unlike other sleeves.
So I did some reading. Apparently "too full" desiccant will re-humidify your container when the weather warms up. My safe has a seal, but I believe it's more about water resistance in the event of a fire + water, and not air tight.
