Grease Struck Cent? - Coin Community Forum

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 05/02/2009 6:30 pm With the devices filled with grease it doesn't allow them to form fully. Kind of like a hydrolic jack. Lifts because a a liquid pumped. I this case the die filled with grease made it look like that. A large percentage of Cents are missing the BUS and OF on the reverse. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 05/03/2009 02:18 am It is called a Struck through error. (grease) But because there are so many on them it makes them as rare a sand. It's not a variety. It is from a normal die. On a variety the hub/punch altered the die making it doubled/ A RPM / Over date from two different dies on 20th Century coins. Extreme examples have more interest in them, common ones are not popular. Report this Post to the Staff
