johnny676767 Pillar of the Community United States 522 Posts	Posted 12/06/2024 11:29 am I saw this name on Brilliant Uncirculated examples encased by ANACS for Morgan dollars. There's no numerical grade, though. I've actually seen this a few times, I think also with the NGC bag fragments series. Is this just a marketing thing? What does the BU mean? Anything from 60-70? Large marketing outfits like GovMint or TV shows like RCTV buy the coins in bulk in lower Uncirculated grades and work out deals with TPG's to have them slabbed with special labels. The coins are being encapsulated, not graded. In the old days Brilliant Uncirculated was around a MS63 and then you had grades like Choice Brilliant Uncirculated which were closer to 64-65. Nowadays the terms are just used for marketing and no longer have much of an association with a particular grade; "Brilliant Uncirculated" could be anywhere from MS60 to MS65.
