Hello, friends! This is my first time posting in this specific main forum, so please let me know if I need to provide more information/ details / pics! I recently found an old coin purse containing older US coins & wanted to ask your assistance with the general condition, how to tell if it's real/fake, or really any information yall might have on some of the coins! I'll even take super interesting & fun facts about them!! :) I am specifically asking about a 1912 Indian head gold coin. I have included multiple pictures below. Gold definitely isn't my specialty, but looks real to me and the weight is good. Sadly looks like a nasty scratch on obverse.

So far your 'old coin purse' find is proving to contain some interesting examples. How many more old coins are in there?
This coin looks authentic to me but I am far from an expert on the gold coin series.

The Purse contained. 13 Older US coins - I've posted about 4 of them so far (3 Dimes, 1 $2.5) 27 Silver Modern US coins - I have not posted any of them yet (spoiler: I think one of a clipped 1964 Kennedy half dollar) 30+ Foreign Currency/Coins - I have not started sorting these yet (Ranging from 1931-1980s) |

Looks real to me. I'm not a expert on gold coins though.

Appears to be a genuine, circulated, common date Indian quarter-eagle. In the condition it's in there will not be a large premium to melt value. There's $320 of gold in it.

I don't see any red flags, but this coin is commonly counterfeited and would be difficult to authenticate from photos alone. If it's a good quality middle eastern counterfeit, it likely is gold and would still have gold value.
