A friend asked me to look at a few older coins he has to see what I think about them. I really don't know much...yet. This Peace dollar looks terrible to me, but I know that it could be much more valuable than I can recognize. The melt value probably is around $29, but a knowledgeable person might see this coin differently. Help, friends. I don't want to disappoint by saying ..I dunno.

Take a closer look at the date, it looks like that could be a 1923-S dollar.

Regardless of date, this is a heavily worn common Peace dollar with no numismatic premium. Value at this time is silver melt.

Look at the mint mark placement?

Mintmark placement varies depending on the die used, so there are many mintmark locations for each year. It looks more like a 1923 to me, too, but I agree with @nickelseacher that it's a moot point.
