I think the "notes" in all three of your threads are different kinds of Japanese war bonds; during the war (which for Japan began in 1933) all Japanese employees (both civilian and military) were obliged to accept part of their pay as war bonds instead of cash. In effect, they were an involuntary loan everyone made to the government to help fund their war machine. I found a few similar examples online, such as this one. As you can see from the sale price, they're not common. I believe the month and year of issue on these bonds is in the third vertical column from the left. The bottom one (black) is Showa Year 14 (= 1939 AD), month 9. The top one (purple) is Showa 15 (1940), month 6. The middle one is also month 6 but I can't read the year. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
