I have just got two cheerios pennies and I'm wondering if they are worth getting graded. I am also wondering the basic value of the coins. I may be able to add pics later.

I can tell you what a Cheerios penny is. At the turn of the millenium (1999 to 2000) Cheerios & the US Mint had a promotion where year 2000 pennies and Sac dollars were put in special holders indicating they were "first strike" and inserted into boxes of Cheerios. As it turned out a number of the Sac dollars were from a preliminary design resulting in crazy values of over $20,000 each at auction. Don't think there is anything special about the cents however. When I first got back into collecting this fall, I came across a site about the Cheerios Dollars and remembered having a holder just like that. Got home that evening and searched high and low until I found it...unfortunately mine contained a cent insted of the dollar. :( http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page20c.html |

There is a premiun for the Cheerio penny but it must be in the original packaging when sent in for grading.

The value of a TPG slabbed example would be about the same as the grading fees. Coins still in the packaging typically sell for a few dollars on ebay. |

they are not worth getting graded unless it has the Sacagawea dollar in the pack with the cent. I have a few of the cents also but never did find one of those pesky Dollars, which may have been a good thing because I would have probably busted it out and bought something with it if I had because I didn't collect coins nor visit any collecting sites in 99 |

Definately not worth getting graded. I have one in the OP too, I just think they are cool.

Seems like a must have for any Lincoln collector....I also have one. $5-$6 on ebay all day long |

The variety on the Cherios dollar wasn't realized until a couple of years later. (No telling how many of them were spent, but so far only one has been reported being found in a roll from the bank.) |

Yeah I've got about 5 of the penny ones too. I still have a good bit of the ones from the 1996 olympics still in the packs, that came in the cereal boxes as well.  |

I have one of these, actually pulled it from a Cheerios box when they first came out. The only thing I was collecting at the time was State Quarters, and only from my pocket change. I don't know why I kept it, but I just threw it in a desk drawer at the time. Then, a year or so ago when I started to get more serious about collecting, it just turned up in that drawer. Still in the original packaging. |
