Um.. Unfortunately it depends on the year lol If it's a 1963 in average condition, then maybe a couple dollars over face.

Quote: Does a red seal $2 star note carry much of a premium. Im not sure of the year right now. If it's a 1928B star note it might be worth around $15,000 or so.

Hey folks, new member here, had my money collection out today, was pondering selling off a few bills to raise some cash when I found this forum. Cool thread, so I thought I'd share some of my finds. If anyone happens to know anything about what you see(ie any bills worth significantly more than face value :), please share, I collect only what looks "neat" and don't know much else about old currency. Some 1976 $2 bills. Kinda neat one was signed and dated back in '76. Some of my favorite money, was found under some newspapers on the floor, in the attic of a 150-200 year old log house in Maryland. Sadly they aren't nearly as old as they could be! Their condition sure looks older than the minted dates! These are some 50s I picked up waiting tables at a local restaurant. First 50 is my oldest bill(if memory serves me). Just some "old" 20s I tucked away when the new "ugly fake looking" 20s started coming out. More tips, this '76 10 is so dark! the green on the back is stunning. Got a few silver certificates. My first and only error note. Darn it, someone "signed" the back! Thanks for lookin' That's about it!

I am no expert but I suppose the error note -- even with the signature -- has some value above face value. And I am fairly certain that the old silver certificates are worth more than face. As for the rest....I have no idea. But it looks like you have a fun collection all the same. I only collect for fun myself so you'll have to wait for an expert to give their opinion on the values.

Hey! Nice collection! And to the forums! :) I haven't taken the time to look through all the pics yet (mobile internet doesn't work very well..lol), but one thing I notice is the error note: sorry, but it's not a real error :( When the black seal on the front is printed, the four bank numbers ("11" in this case) are printed at the same time. If the black seal is shifted to the right side of the note, the black numbers should go with it, but on this note, they don't. Tell-tale sign of a fake, and the signature on the back is probably of the person who made it!

I got two old ten dollar bills today, one from 1988 and the other from 1990 at the bank. Let me ask a question: Is it true that the Federal Reserve destroys as many of these older designs as possible?

Yes. I've heard that when these old style bills get to the FRB's, they are destroyed.
Same goes for any non-Green seal notes they get.

Pretty certain the error is genuine.

Same goes for any non-Green seal notes they get. In that case, I think it may be wise to start saving these older, small portrait notes. Do any of you think these will be worth much more than face value as more and more of these are shredded?

Not for at least a couple decades.

Nice collection of notes. Have to agree the error note does not look genuine. You can actually see where the black seal was in the correct location and was altered in some way.

A couple of years ago, after getting a hair cut, the stylist handed me a 1935g blue seal silver certificate! I still cant believe it.

Coinsearcher83 is correct, the error is a fake. The third printing applies the seals and the #'s at the same time. Unfortunately there is no way for the black seal to be shifted without everything else shifting as well. These are fairly simple to replicate with some solvent and a replicated stamp or a decent laser printer.

Here's a few of my favorite finds. I used to have a ton a star notes but when hsrd times come it seems easier to spend paper money than old coins as paper money doesn't seem to hold value as much as coins do for some reason even though paper money wears so much faster. Luckily all of the paper money I have I got at face from circulation. My favorite $5 My favorite $2 2 interesting serialed $1's And while nothing special on the surface I got this one from Neil Shafer at the last club meeting auction. I guess paper money guys pay with odd bills and coin guys pay with coins as I was paying with Kennedy halves left over from my roll searching. I'm sure one or 2 paper money guys know who Neil is
