Well ...... it looks raised from here so I am going to say that is a die crack. If left in the press I suppose it will eventually break off and form a Cud. David |

Thanks for your input nickelsearcher,It is raised but I don't think it's a die crack because die cracks are irregular and sharper, more jagged if you will. I was thinking maybe a mad-clash?

Definetly not a crack. Looks like some sort of clash. See if you can determine the radius of the curve (<, =, or > the cent itself). Is it just a raised line (what it looks like) or is it a raised portion of the field from the line to the rim?

I was just looking at another post (about a 1985 LMC) and this looks very much like what ADAM_E refered to as die wear, so that is a possibility as well. |

I've seen these in other cents too. I always think that the planchet must have skipped when it was being stamped but I really don't know.
John1 is that the QX5 that you are using?

No it's a Celestron 44302. I know my pics are not the best but it seems to be good enough to get what I'm seeing in a post.

John1, you seem to do well in getting those shots you need. Maybe I can get something to help improve my pics this xmas.
I always write STAMPED because I can't remember that the correct term- it's STRIKE- I have to work on that. My memory is getting as bad as my eyes. :(

It's a die dent. Too circular to be a gouge or die crack.
