The reverse on this coin is pretty bad, but the coin would fill a space. 6 people have placed bids and it has only been bid up to $8.51.

Numismedia says a "G" would go for $144. The reverse on this is at best fair or AG.

I don't want to overpay on a needed coin that might be a bad buy based on 6 people bidding so low. Admittedly, the high bidder may have bid higher than the $8.51, but at least 5 bidders have bid lower than $8.51.

What say CCF members?

I'd go for it, especially if it stays cheap since it's a $50 coin in FR02. It compares favorably with this PCGS FR2 that went for $60 on Teletrade:

It's AG-3 IMO and it should be worth $50-65

My main concern is getting an 1897 O without having to pay "G" money. I am thinking someone will snipe, which I have never been able to do successfully, but if I bid high, the snipers will just push the price up. And I am still concerned that all the low bids could mean that people don't think this is a great buy.

Not a bad buy right now....

Don't forget, this seller is an established dealer with their primary business off ebay. They'll have a bunch of people watching this auction, ready to snipe.

As a buyer, sometimes I wish I could see how many Watchers a given auction has.

It's a great buy right now, but with 10 hours to go, it will surely go higher. I always recommend bidding the maximum you are willing to pay as late in the auction as you can.

It's only at $15.49 and there have been 7 bidders with 20 minutes left. I am not sure that would make it a good buy.

Sniping is cool, you just have to snipe 20+ auctions to even get 3-4 if you tend to buy at lower prices. Better to buy in bulk even if its more up front.
