I have a coin stated above but unlike some coins that state the amount on the back this one has the wording California Gold centered on the back of the coin. The front is the head and neck with the stars going around but I cant seem to find info on this one with the wording on the back. Please advise. The coin is in the shape of an octagon. THis one has no denomination or bear on the reverse side.?
Pictures would help but it sounds like you have one of the very common modern Cal Gold reproductions. Purported Cal Gold coins that have a bear on the reverse or are lacking a denomination are reproductions.
With no denomination on the piece, even if there's no bear or bearlike anteater armadilloish thing, 'tis probably a modern token...
Anyway, here's an ebay search for such a coin. The second item in the search with the star(at the moment of this posting) is a very modern token... and only worth a couple of bucks as a piece of bright brass(goldine). If the seller gets the 20+ dollars for it, well uhm... 'twould probably be from an uninformed buyer. If that ain't it, post a picture and we'll figure it out.
