Would this mean indiana and Illinois are off the list sense all that separates them from Canada is michigans body of water? :D

if you look on a map you can get to Canada without ever touching land from both Illinois and Indiana. You would simply need to take Lake Michigan to Lake Huron.

For purposes of this contest, Indiana and Illinois are included in those most Northern States. So don't choose em ;-)
