tzarmarko Pillar of the Community 614 Posts	Posted 05/30/2012 7:55 pm Today I finally gathered the strength to ask my parents for something that I have wanted for a long time. I am 14 and finally going into my first year of high school, so as a gift, my parents told me to pick something that I wanted. Take a guess what that would be. Can anyone please recommend me some not too costly but good beginners metal detectors? I would like it to be in the $100-$250 price range. Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

If you want a general detector an ACE 250, Fisher F2, or Tesoro Silver uMax would all be good. If you were hunting for gold I would look into getting a used Whites Gold Master or Fisher Gold Bug. If you were mostly going to hunt salt water beaches you would need a machine that would not be affected by the salt water. These would probably be out of your price range right now. I would also look into a pin pointer, good pair of headphones, and a good digging tool. You can find used stuff that would work pretty well. Do your research and see what would work best for you. Dave (Vermontensium) and I go hunting all the time. He likes detectors with screens. I like detectors without. I like to hear the difference between objects. It's all a matter of preference. Test some out if that is possible and find one that would work best for you. You might be able to find a $350 detector on ebay/craigslist used in your price range. Just gotta do the research.
