I have recently aquired a strange coin. It is a regular 2003 silver eagle, but overtop it on both sides is some sort of picture/sticker/decal of Ronald Reagan. It is strange because it does not look like it was done by someone at home. The obverse has his bust, and the reverse has a quote. It is all in color. Anyone know what it is?

It's a coin that's a perfect candidate for an acetone soaking. Would love to see a pic of it.

If you look closely... it is an ASE covered with the painted images... not sure why someone would do that to a perfectly good coin...

Yup...the OP said that it was a regular ASE with something on top of it...

I'm trying to find the origin of the "artwork"

Edited to add: Found it!. Sold by the National Collector's Mint

I really don't like these colorized coins at all. I think it cheapens the beauty of the coin and it serves a purely emotional need to separate people from their money.

I agree. You can put a sticker on anything, so they should just do it to a blank one ounce silver round.

I've never liked the colored versions of modern coins, but this is even another level of horribleness. Who thought it was a good idea to do this?
