The other day I was in my local supermarket. On the way in, I'd noticed a penny lying on the floor, but felt a bit self-conscious picking it up with so many people there, and left it (99% of times I do pick up pennies). After doing my grocery shopping, I was using the self-service till. I meant to pay by credit card, but pushed the wrong button and it demanded cash. I wasn't worried until I realised I was a penny short. I rushed back to the entrance and the penny was still there, so I grabbed it, not caring who saw me, and sprinted back to the till and put it in!

It doesn't matter if it is a cent or a $100 bill. As long as it is free I pick it up!

I used to make a bit of spendable pocket money as a kid.

I would go to the local railway (major) railway ticket office, and just hang around train spotting.
The pavement in front of the ticket office was paved with bitumen.
Passengers in a hurry would occasionally drop the odd coin or two afer buying their ticket and making a dash for the train.

Oftentimes, small silver coins would be confused with silver paper by passers-by, and I would just pick the odd silver coin up for myself. It was a way of providing free ice-creams for myself!

I don't bother. The cent has such low purchasing power I now just disregard them.

Quote:
minimum wage ($10.25/hour

In the US I'm only getting $7.25/hour ($7.49 CAD)for minimum wage.

And after taxes it leaves me with $5.99/hour most weeks

So yes, I do pick up pennies
