2015 Penny Error?! Gold/Brass Coating

Crazyb0 Rest in Peace 10197 Posts	Posted 02/25/2018 2:26 pm As explained previously, numerous times, the blanks are cut from zinc plate stock, then electroplated with copper. This is different than a cladding like on dimes and other clad coins(edge shows). The copper plating solution will gain zinc from the blanks, more zinc in there makes brass, that gold tone. Just a quality control failure to replace/condition the plating solution. Then again, future rocket scientists and garage imps will mimic the thousands of DIY YouTube videos on how to plate your own coins [:o) Edited by Crazyb0 02/25/2018 2:28 pm Report this Post to the Staff
