German State Coin........which State?

KLD Pillar of the Community Australia 1079 Posts	Posted 03/21/2006 8:42 pm I have alot of German states coins, all bare a few I have been able to identify which state. I only have the modern Krause book to use, which limites me. I have he below 1764 coin, can anyone help tell me from which state it is from. Sap Moderator Australia 16882 Posts	Posted 03/22/2006 12:01 am Prussia is always a good guess for German States, but, sorry KLD, in this case it's a wrong guess. The eagle gave it away for me: Prussia never ever used the double-headed "Russian-style" eagle. The coin looks to me like one of the Schwarzburg principalities; FVRST is short for "Principality" and I can read "SCHW" after that. There were two coin-issuing branches of the family in the 1760's: Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (I love those names!). I think it says "RVDO" next, so I'd be leaning towards Rudolstadt. Not many pictures in the 18th century Krause for these states, but the 1/12th thaler is depicted with a design pretty close to yours. What's the other side look like? That's where the denomination should be. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Rudolstadt? you say, I never knew they were a recongnised German State? their not in the books I have. maybe they were a recognised state then leter not? Report this Post to the Staff
