I bought this coin at a 1987 Bowers and Merena auction where it was described as 'Mint State, wood-grained toning'. I recall I paid $330 for the coin. I am only mentioning this because it highlights the price increase these 'key-dates' have seen in the intervening years, even accounting for inflation I would say. paralyse Bedrock of the Community United States 12057 Posts	Posted 07/17/2015 12:05 pm Ah, the glory days before slab inflation :( Two of my favorite coins in my books (1909 VDB, no S in VF35; 1883/2 Shield nickel -FS013.2 LDS in VF20) are raw LCS purchases from "those days". I paid $3 for the VDB and $28 for the nickel. That is one SERIOUSLY beautiful S-VDB I am not worthy of such a beautiful Wheat cent :P Also, $330...
