1978-P Lincoln Cent Question - Coin Community Forum

Tom Bolka New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 01/02/2021 6:17 pm Hello - I would to find out if anyone can tell me about the odd looking 1978 cent that I have. It does look copper, but is very thin (.037" thick) and very light (1.7G). The diameter is .71", about the size of a dime. The rim is smooth, not reeded. I am attaching 3 pictures. merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 01/02/2021 6:29 pm Considering the reduced size and the surface of the coin, I think acid has eaten away on this cent. Lack of a good rim and striations on the surfaces point to some sort of acid, in my opinion. Post mint damage ( PMD) to the CCF! Edited by merclover 01/02/2021 6:31 pm Report this Post to the Staff

Plating on cents did not start until 1982. I agree with it being acid etched as the rims are usually the first to go. Report this Post to the Staff
