Found this roll hunting today and I don't know exactly what this may be. Struck through debris? Planchet damage before the strike? What throws me off is if it was damage on the reverse then it should have pushed the metal UP on the obverse - But instead, on the obverse, Lincoln's head is actually sunken in like there wasn't enough metal during the strike to form it properly........

Interesting anomaly on both sides of the coin in the same location. The obv almost looks like a struck thru with some type of lamination looking thing/line.

The rev looks like the coin took a major hit with some type of press or tool cutting into it.

Agree, a major hit to the reverse from some foreign object(s), likely deliberate.

For a reverse hit like that shouldn't there be some evidence of it on the obverse? Like on counterstamped coins, there is a corresponding flat spot on the opposite side........

If I was a real numismatist, my crystal ball could probably tell you how it happened, where it happened and why it happened.

Couldn't your crystal balls just tell you the winning numbers for the lottery?

Yes damage--my guess is that a round-headed screw with a flat-head slot in it was pressed into the rev, but who knows?
