Dark Coin Grade Question - Coin Community Forum

Some coins have nice detail, but are almost black. In extreme or worse cases than the above would a light aceton dip be advised. I know, I know dont clean coins! Report this Post to the Staff

biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 10/25/2011 6:58 pm A very dark patination should only affect the grade of a coin at the MS levels when the toning is so heavy that it impairs luster. The patina of your coin is exactly what you should expect on a 100 year old average circ coin that has not been messed with previously. There might be a lump of crud adhered to the right side of the wreath but other than that, acetone would have no effect. Report this Post to the Staff

jessvc1 Pillar of the Community United States 2596 Posts	Posted 10/25/2011 7:31 pm the best thing you can do is shop around and compare prices, look around online and at other coin shops, good luck and I'm sure you will find your coin.
