Im kind of confused on this coin. Can anyone explain what I'm seeing? First around the edge I was thinking Cud then also is there anything special about this coin other than the condition? I dont really collect Canadian coins for I have very little knowledge on them. Just trying to keep up with American coins is enough for me.   |

That`s a pretty nice looking nickel. Your nickel is the no shoulder fold-far maple leaf variety.(NSF-FAR) There is nothing unusual about it(No Cud etc.) Oh,this is not the more valued variety,but still a nice coin.  |

That is the first year queen Elizabeth was on our coins. Very good looking coin. Keeper for sure

I looked at some Cud examples for that year it is Cuds I guess below the bust and by REGINA. I'm confused on how thick the rim is on the obverse and how weak the rim is on the reverse. Below the neck I believe it to be a die clash. The reverse below the date most of the outer detail is missing. This is a Chrome nickel too. I agree with Colectali NSF-FAR. |

Nope. You have to think about how it appears in reverse on the die.

It's plated!
I looked it up in my library's 2009 Standard Catalog of World Coins (Krause) and the material is chromium and nickel plated steel. So yes, its plated.
I think this one is quite collectible for me in that some varieties are affordable in very high grades (under $10 for MS-63 for example) , at least according to the 2009 values in the book I have here...

Same error under the queen's chin appears on 1978-79-80 cents. I believe it's caused by some of the plating on the die coming off (also can find it on 1940's 50 cents along the rim, called a mortar set on them).
Does your coin have a bluish tinge to it ? Almost looks like it may be missing the chromium plating.
