A quarter and three nickels yesterday. No idea why they were rejected, since they weren't any different from ordinary ones, I guess someone didn't care about taking them

Not sure it counts but while dumping halves and cents today at my dump bank I found a $2.00 Canadian coin stuck under the machine piece above the coin sorter.

I just recently opened a new account at a bank which has a coin-counter machine so I could dump my coins easier.
I've gone six times so far this month and I've found 'abandoned' coins each time. Most are Canadian, and the rest were a variety of dirty and/or damaged U.S. coins.

Nothing was of any significant value, but free money is free money! I'm very thankful.

atticguy,

do they charge you to use the coin counter at your bank? I've always taken my halves to the teller and they do it behind the counter.

This new bank (TCF) for me will let me do it free of charge IF I have an account there of $100 or more. If you don't have an account, they will take around 8% off (I'm not sure of the exact %) to use the coin scanner. At least it would be cheaper than Coin Star.

Right now I've been depositing around 10% of my scanned coins into my savings account and getting cash for the rest. My plan is to keep depositing a little of my coins each time I use the machine so that by next Xmas I will have enough savings to use to buy gifts.
