Hi,
I was wondering if this was a real error or not. It looks right on the front for an Off center, but why is there no detail on the reverse?

Thanks!

I think that's a partial brockage?

The reverse was overlapping another planchet when struck so it is uniface(no design present).

Looks like a undated 60% off center uni-face strike Five cent piece, and at $51.20 (with postage), think it is overpriced...

Off center broadstrike with a brockage reverse. There was a coin stuck on the reverse die causing the collar to depress. That would give you a spread out strike. It may also have interfered with the feed mechanism leading to the planchet being fed part way. Very nice error. Is it worth $50? Pricey.

A dealer friend of mine came back from the 'States a few years ago with about 200 or so of this type of mint 'spoil' (error). He was selling them over the counter for $20 each. A couple of years later, after he had sold all of them, the local price in Sydney started to rise, and occasionally, I now see them for around the $50 mark.

These errors are scarce, but I would definitely not consider them as 'rare'.

All you need is for a high speed minting press to go a little 'crazy', and next thing you know, you have shovels full of them!

As biokemist6 said, it's an off-center uniface strike.
