2005 Falklands & Sierra Leone Charles/Camilla - Silver?

Coinaholic73 Valued Member United Kingdom 298 Posts	Posted 10/06/2012 08:20 am Hi, managed to pick these up cheap and took a chance because the coins were in a Pobjoy mint velvet case. After doing a little research online I could find no evidence that the Pobjoy mint ever actually struck these coins so I think the coins themselves have just been put in the case Is anyone familiar with these? I'm trying to determine if they are definitely silver. The only affirmative I can find is this about the Sierra leone coin http://www.24carat.co.uk/frame.php?...ingcoin.html It says the CuNi version was 27g and the 925 is 28.28g. Mine actually weighs 28.5g, so with my dodgy scales I'd think it likely silver. Both have a mirror finish. And yes, it is one hella ugly coin on the right! svslav Pillar of the Community United States 2605 Posts	Posted 10/07/2012 12:33 am Many of modern crowns are made of multiple metals - there are Cu-Ni issues as well as silver. If a coin came from an obscure source it may be tough to establish its content. More likely cupro-nickel though. Report this Post to the Staff
Coinaholic73 Valued Member United Kingdom 298 Posts	Posted 10/07/2012 7:27 pm Yes, infact since the one I got is a $1 Sierra leone coin not $10 and my world books of coins lists lots of CuNi Sierra Leone commemoratives as CuNi and 28.5g (although not this one) I think (unfortunately!) you are right.
