Lindberg Medal

There are many variations of Lindberg medals. Some bring very good money and others do not. If I'm not mistaken, I've sold one of these on ebay about 4 years ago. If I remember correctly, it sold for less than what I paid for it. I think I paid around 35 dollars at the time.

Is the 4 digit number added on the medal done with marker or engraved? This will probably not help value if it's permanent damage.

I would love to meet an auctioneer who marks his items with a wax grease pencil. I think it was more like 45 dollars I paid for the medal. I bought it on a hunch and like many hunches, they don't pay off. Also this medal would have come in a presentation box.

If it's only wax, you can use Zippo lighter fluid. Don't rub, just lightly dab. I've removed wax from other metals and glass too. Acetone would probably work too.
