the luster is not well represented in these pics - I tweaked them so the details would show.

Unfortunately I've lost the page with the definitions for grading on it.

I'm gonna say... xf-45

Steve; the pic has problems with showing the actual condition of the coin, and as such wouold only be a guess on my part. So haveing said that, here goes with a slightly lower grade of vf for this nickel.

this is an UNC coin - I was trying to show off the poor alloy mix striping. the coin is dark, but has full luster and shows no wear. a very interesting coin and thus the reason I purchased it. the coin is part of a gift set for my father in law.

I agree that the pics are tough to grade from ,But I think the coin is AU-55, the reverse is the giveaway , full pillars and triangle above the door, along with some steps .

The cheek and hair show what looks like very slight wear .

having said that , This coin may have been cleaned some time in the past and has retoned .

thanks for the feedback. I have studied this coin for a few days and picked up a few others in higher quality - this coin is supposed to be an UNC, but I agree it looks more like an AU55. I'm going to trade it for some Lincoln's in MS.

Jefferson nickels can have weakly struck hair and this may be an example. The reverse is MS and I don't see any wear on Jefferson's cheek bone to go along with supposed wear on the hair.
I'm guessing the coin is MS, but I need a better pic of the obverse. It wouldn't grade less than AU-58.
