That 1967 Numismatic Association medal that you recently added, is that silver or no?

Quote: That 1967 Numismatic Association medal that you recently added, is that silver or no? Silver. Keeping everything strictly silver. I picked it up paired with a brass of the same issue at our clubs auction 8 months ago for $1 for the pair described as pair of 1967 MNS medals with no mention of metal content. A couple of lots before this one was for the same silver medal but the seller said theirs was silver and it sold for $13. I can't believe no one else was paying attention to put 2 and 2 together that this one was silver as well. Works for me. It is the diameter of a silver dollar but 3/4 as thick and weighs 23.3 grams. What I don't get is what I assume is die wear as the legends are not fully struck. My 2007 / 2009 MNS medal has the same issue but not as badly. The brass one is fully struck. I wonder if maybe the softer brass struck better? I would think that they would have struck the higher priced silver ones on fresh dies before the cheaper brass ones.

That is a nice looking stack, Jack.

My maples came today. I'm not sure if I really want to use one, though- I would sacrifice having a whole roll of BU coins.

I would be reluctant to use one as well. Every now and then I am tempted to make the J-Buck a pocket piece, but then I start thinking about what could never be undone.

That would be a heck of a cool pocket piece. However, I don't think you should use it either. I'll be going to a decent sized show (Boeing employees show) a week from tomorrow, so I'll find a nice big silver coin (preferably a proof or RP) to add to my pocket.

I am thinking about putting it in an plastic holder and carry it around, but I would still be afraid of losing it.

For me, the point of carrying a pocket piece is to circulate it and wear it down. The capsule might be a good idea in your case, but a $15 bullion piece is not as bad to lose as something that represents you so much here on CCF.

You guys have inspired me to try out the pocket piece. I'm thinking about this 64 I got tricked into buying when I first started collecting. I think I only paid $5.00 for it but you couldn't see the scratches in the pictures. Think carrying it around can wear them off?

It wouldn't hurt. It would take a while to get them all off, but eventually you could do it. Anyway, for a 64, a problem-free lowball would probably bring more than a cleaned AU or MS.

Based on the previous posts it seems the ASE is a popular pocket piece for members outside of the US.

Hm. I seem to have misplaced my 1974 Ike. :( I had went through a lot with it in those 3 months.

Oh, I misplace my pieces all the time, as I'm rather disorganized. In fact, I can't find them now. I'm sure they'll turn up within a day.
