OLCoins Valued Member United States 397 Posts	Posted 08/25/2014 3:42 pm I was just about to throw this up for auction on ebay then I saw the die crack on the reverse diagonally below the horse. At first I thought it was part of the design. It actually extends all the way to the edge of the coin. Does anyone know if this is a diagnostic for a variety? Report this Post to the Staff

philadelphian Pillar of the Community United States 3253 Posts	Posted 08/25/2014 11:52 pm Maybe that's a die break, and maybe the speckles in the upper left quarter of the arms are die rust, also specific to some variety, but there seems to be such encrustation on this coin that it's hard to say for sure. As to the variety, I don't see a dot after GEORGIVS, and I count seven strings on the harp, which narrows it down. I'm thinking perhaps Newman 8-H, which is a pretty rare variety, but I'm not completely convinced yet. Report this Post to the Staff
