I myself do not do boxes, the people at my bank give me a hard time about it. Seems to me that every other meas of getting half dollars lately have been dumps. I've tried like 50 banks in the past two weeks with a big fat ZERO!! Hopefully my luck will change.

Often, it is good to know the employees at your local credit union. The credit union I received my thousand dollars and change from also had half dollars.

When I said I would take the half dollars, they told me I could be sure they had already been gone through. So, I went ahead and got dimes and quarters instead.
After my experience with quarters, and after reading comments from others, I think I will primarily stick with dimes from now on unless half dollars are also available.

2 boxes today, 3 40%'ers and a '64. 3 banks didn't get my orders this week for various reasons... there goes 12 boxes.

Ken, I have a motto... "I'll take them all." I've had tellers tell me crap was gone through and I've pulled solid rolls of 40% silver halves. Always take everything.

updating one of my previous posts. I just finished my first case of halves. I was quite sceptical but, my findings well exceeded my expectations. 5-1967 and 2-1968 alot better than my average of one silver per case of dimes. Although as far as varieties and misc. random finds I still do favor pennies.

Well, I've processed $1500 this week and it hasn't been very good over all. But I do have a couple interesting notes. I've found two 74D DDO's that have been ruined by people. One has a hole through the center of it. The other was marked by a CRH'er (not really ruined). On the good side, I also found a BU 74D DDO. I may send it in for grading. Also, on my bag of loose $500, I was disappointed to see that literally 9 out of 10 coins were marked by the same red sharpie. Just a dot on the obverse. I decided to go ahead and edge search them anyway, just in case. I actually found a 1964! That was a nice suprise.

So after reading the forum I decided to jump into the Kennedy fray (partially motivated by my recent trip to the JFK Library in Boston).

So I went to my bank yesterday and ordered a box. I also told them if they have any extras I would love to have them and they were very nice and called me today about two bags they had. I went in to pick them up and was worried when I found they were sealed bags from the mint labeled 2001 p-d and 2006p-d. Has anyone else ever gotten these? Does that mean all I have is 2001 and 2006 with no shot at anything else? Should I just return them to another bank or are they worth opening? Thanks for the advice.

They might sell for a premium being in truly uncirculated condition. The 2006s are NIFC so they might be worth even more. Good find. The bags look nice as well! :)

Those $100.00 bags were sold by the US Mint, they sold for $139.95. Each bag has 100 P mint and 100 D mint. The 2012
bag is currently still available.

You should definitely be able to sell those bags for a premium.

dmagku:

The 2001 are also NIFC, but they made so many of them they are not that hard to find. In fact I release any I find back into the wild.

The 2006 pieces are a different story. I find one every now and then. If you don't sell them as a bag for a premium, they might be worth passing on to the grandchildren some day b/c of low mintage.

2001P...21,200,000
2001D...19,504,000

2006 P...2,400,000
2006D...2,000,000

In comparison, the lowest mintage of a circulating JFK was 2,100,000 for the 70D (remember it was 40% silver though also).

Although I'll never see it, I have a feeling the 100th of JFKs assassination might bring a surge in interest in this series. You grandchildren would thank you

Cool. I have done some reading and searching on ebay and feel pretty good about my get today.

Any thoughts on how I should sell these? Just list the bag on ebay at $160 plus shipping of $10 looks like a reasonable price.

Anyone think I would be better off opening the bags and selling individually at $2.50 ish each and place them in 2x2 holders? I could also sell the bag itself it looks like for around $5.00.

This could be a nice little help in funding my hobby. I already plan on buying a Dansco Kennedy book out of the proceeds and maybe could use this towards that and other expenses I may come across.

Earle, the '70-D was a mint set only coin, never released for circulation.

I received a call last night from my bank Manager telling me they forgot to order my 2 boxes of halves. I told her this actually works out really good for me because I re-injured my back and I didn't think I would be able to carry the boxes. I told her not to worry about. She then told me that she found $100 in Ikes if I was interested? Of course I was interested. When I stopped into the bank today to get the Ikes, she informed me there was actually 10 rolls, $200, instead and she found a box of halves in the vault also. Needless to say, I took the all. I was going to open the box and make 2 trips to the car with the halves. The Manager would not let me carry the box or and she carried them to my car for me. It was a little embarrassing to have her carry them for me but she never allowed them to get on my side of the window. I need to get some candy and deliver it to her on Monday.

I edged searched the Ikes first.

I know nothing about Morgans so I called my Brother first. I'll show it to him tomorrow. Now to search the box of halves.
