The 6250 roll mark is significant in that I am now 25% done! Still 75% to go! Just as I suspected, CND you would be down to the 39D and the 50D at the end. I have a funny feeling that you will find a 50D before a 39D. I just think that some kid will roll up Dad's nickels for a pack of smokes and you'll end up with a heck of a roll someday. As far as the 44 no mm nickel, yes it is a counterfeit. I found one roll searching around 1984 and a double eye 43P in 1987. The no mm 44 is known as the Henning nickel and certainly not part of the set but it is part of my set because it is an asterisk in the RedBook for as long as I remember. Here's the story http://www.numismaticenquirer.com/T...0Nickel.htmland I have been looking through my spares for double dies and repunched mintmarks and have decided to examine all my 1939, 1946, 1947 and 1953 for that funky R in PLURIBUS on the reverse as I would suspect that is one clue. The lead pencil "ish" dull color of the nickel is another clue. If I find any of the others 1939, 1946, 1947 and 1953, I will let you know. Here is an image of my fake nickel. Recently another in lesser condition sold on ebay for about 30 bucks. I have a theory on Full Step nickels. I think in the future, there will be a premium value on choice XF and AU issues that have the strong strikes and FULL STEP details on them as well as the UNC's in those tougher dates. I have been saving FS nicks in less than UNC with good eye appeal as well for a long time.

Coppernickeldaddy, I still have a few Cincinnati Transit tokens from the years of going to Cincinnati public schools. Funny how stuff like that pops up.

I found a 5 cent euro today searching through nickel rolls. What an ugly coin! I sure hope US coins don't go that route.

coppernickeldaddy, I am sure you have heard it before, but very nice thread. The ladies at my bank look at me like I have two heads when I ask for a couple hundred in nickels. Very nice findings and good luck on the 39-D and 50-D. I pulled a 39-D in from a roll, but gave up and purchased an AU 50-D. Happy Hunting!

Hi All! Due to way too much overtime at work, haven't done an update for over three weeks! At this pace, I won;t be done until sometime in 2010! Anyway, turns out the wait was well worth it! box of 50 plastic shrink wrapped rolls) wasn't too special; a 94s proof, well circulated, but not much else. The second "box" was actually 50 customer wrapped rolls. I don't usually take those, but once in awhile I'll take them. They are circulated coin, after all! 49 of the rolls were pretty average (17 pre-59 coins in the 49 rolls) but the other roll, 30 pre 1959's!! Among them were 7 warnickels, a 38d,39d (sorry Wheezy, the 39d came before the 50d!) and a 39s. I went back to the bank hoping they had more from that customer (there was an account number on the roll) but I had cleaned them out of all of their customer rolls :( Anyway, here is the update! 100 rolls 62 pre-1959 7 Silver Nickels (1942s,(2)1943P,(2)1943S,1944S,1945S) 1 Proof (1994s) 1 Germany 50 Pfennig (1985) Three key dates (38d,39d,39s) GRAND TOTALS TO DATE: 6400 rolls 2761 pre 1959 (5 most common: 1958d(267),1957d(210),1940(187),1941(185),1946(147) 111 Silver Nickels (3 most common: 1943P(24),1945P(20),1943S(20) 2 Liberty nickels (1901,1905) 20 Buffalo nickels ((5)dateless,(2)1920,1924,(2)1927,1928,1928s,1929,1929s,(2)1935,(2)1936,1937,1938d) 5 Proof (1974s,1987s,1993s,1994s,2007s) 4 Bermuda 5 cents (1970,1986,1987,1996) 4 Bahamas 5 cents (1981,1998,(2)2000) 1 Belgium 1 Franc (1975) 1 Cayman Islands 10 Cents (2002) 2 Germany 50 Pfennig (1972,1985) 1 Italy 20 Centimes (1941) 1 Latvia 1 Lats (1992) 1 Mexico 50 Centavos (1993) 1 Norway 1 Kroner (1997) 1 Saudi Arabia 10 Halala (date unknown) 1 Somalia 5 Shillings (2000) 3 Switzerland 20 Rappen (1969,(2)1970) 1 Tanzania 50 Senti (1990) 1 Unidentified foreign coin (no date) 1 Cincinnati Ohio Transit Token NEEDED TO COMPLETE SET: 1 1950d Be watching the contest board here on Coin Community; whoever can guess which roll between 6401 and 25000 I will find the 1950d in (if I even find one at all!) will win the circulated Jefferson set from 1938-1961 that I have put together from this survey! Watch for that within a day or two....and for more updates here!

CnD are you still gonna finish the rest of the 25,000 rolls after you find the 1950 d or stop after that?

No, I will go on! Who knows, maybe beyond 25000? A few have mentioned to me that when I get to 25000 I should write some sort of article summarizing the whole process. I would do that based on the 25000 rolls, so no, I will go on to the goal.
