I searched a few rolls this week, about $30 worth of brinks. I found a 1924 canadian nickel in there? george V starin right at me. coolest and oldest nickel find yet. I have to say the nickels are the most fun to search, with halves and pennies behind.

I have to agree about nickels being the most fun to search. At first I had no idea why people bothered but I figured I'd give it a try anyway. Now I see. It's about variety. Nice BU examples, proofs, wartime silver, lots of pre 60 Jeffersons, buffaloes, foreign coins, and even an occasional Liberty nickel. Have found them all. Ton's of fun. Perfect box? For me I would say at least 1 buffalo, 1 wartime, 1 foreign, and a proof. ....Still waiting for that though have come close. |

3 Buffalos from a box of nickels searched last night.
One was a 1920 .....the other two were "dateless". But I still like em' !
Also found, as per usual, plenty of "S" mints and "pre-1960" ones.

congrats on the George V thats a tough find even here in Canada, I'd like to think that's the equivalent of finding a buffalo here.

I humbly submit that the Jefferson nickel series is the only long-running, currently minted for circulation US coinage series where it is still possible to collect the entire circulation strike examples today from circulation. Several of our members have done that ... and I am 2 coins short. Nickel searching IMHO is a great way to start into the hobby ..... low cost (5 cents a find), and the opportunity to find ... as you say .... a very wide variety of treasure .... and even complete a collection for only the face value of the coins. VERY addictive! I need two 1950d's to complete my second and third sets from all of the rolls that I have been through.

I searched 2 boxes of Brinks wrapped nickels last week and found virtually nothing. I go to the bank today, pick up 10 rolls of customer wrapped nickels and the first roll in I find a 42 P War Nickel and a very nice 82 P and a very nice 66 p. Maybe the customer wrapped stuff is going to improve around here! |

I've never gotten much out of customer wrapped nickels, a few late 50's, thats about it.
I did purchase a full roll of 45P's for $4 the other day at a yard sale though. There were the only coins there, I asked how much, the lady said double face value cause they are old.

In my area, Credit Unions are the best places for rolls. Most of their stuff is customer wrapped, and I've been able to find quite a bit from them.

Things have been slow for me. Out of 3 boxes last week, the best was a date less S buff where the 8 is showing. My son thinks it's a 1918 S (Our first S buff) as the 20's buffs we have the date is some what legible. There were 3 wars and less than 40 pre 60's.
The other highlight was going to a bank to buy some nickel rolls and they said they could give me ONE roll as I was not a customer. Open the roll to find a 43-P.
One of the banks has $180 in customer rolls and I told the teller I would pick them up on Thursday. Let's see what that holds.
Also, from the 3 boxes my son found a 2009 P. On closer inspection it looks like a satin finish. Is this possible or is it a dull finish / greasy handling? TIA
BTW, the box numbers around here are 54## series. The 50## series was good. Is anyone tracking the box #'s?
