I've had good luck with Brinks nickel boxes - I usually average 1 War Nickel per box and roughly 20 pre 1959. I can also usually pull a few 'S' Mint 50's or 40's, but have not had good luck with Buffalos or older nickels. I've been going through a box of nickels per week since the finds on my two weekly half boxes have dwindled.

my nickel boxes have been pretty dismal lately. I average about 1 buff per 3 boxes. 1 war for every 2 boxes. and can usually count on pulling 20-25 pre 59's per box. those numbers haven't been working out recently so I've taken a break and gone over to the lincolns for the past couple of weeks.

My last Brinks box was a killer - 4 wars and 3 buffs.

You just never know.

Went through all of my 39, 44P's, 46, 47 and 53's today - no Hennings.

Now that I know what to look for though, I'll be able to look as I go from now on.

I had a nice Brinks box yesterday. 2 no-date Buffalos and a 1916! That's my oldest nickel from circulation!

Great Fun hammer77 ..... 4 buffalo in 1 roll is way beyond my ability to dream big.

That said ..... my news is a nice find tonight ..... I just pulled a sparkling BU (MS63+-) Full-Step 1959-P Jefferson from a roll. Truly exhibits a hammered strike .... full steps with no dings or interruptions.

Not a rare or valuable coin by any means ..... but special to me.

It boggles my mind that this coin shows up 50+ years after it was minted ..... looking like it was made yesterday (better actually based on the 2009 Jefferson I've seen!)

Makes me wonder where it has been hiding ..... and where are the others that go with it?

David

great find!

I picked up 10 rolls at lunch. Filled a hole with a 51D. Nothing else to brag about. Picking up a box tomorrow.

Finally, I got through the customer rolls and nothing special except one war and some nice 80's coins.

The boxes are getting better. I came across a 40 - P ( no mint mark). There full steps and the last 2 are about 60% (left to right). The same box also had some nice pre 60's with no greasy residue and a 50 D. Unfortunately the teller is running low and is unable to give the 2 other boxes that came with this batch. She will give it to me if it's still available next week.

OT - It's unreal how some banks zip through boxes of coins every week and some others barley can go through a single box in any given week. One bank I went to has not placed an order since 2007!. I have also started getting boxes of coins from the local grocery store to test the waters.

Peace

Ceylon62,

You react like that 50D is no big deal! It's a HUGE deal, probably the toughest date of all to find! I have found one in close to 17,000 rolls. Others on here have had better success, but still a real tough coin to find "in the wild".

TheHammer,

Four Buffalos in a roll, and in Canada no less! I have to start searching rolls up there!

I have been holding out on everyone! I am going to post seven updates today, which puts me at the 2/3 done mark (16,666 rolls). Can almost see the home stretch!

Good to hear CND! I was wondering when the next updates were going to be. I certainly admire your perseverance with seeing this thing through!

Got my first 2009 a few nights back. A 2009P. Hard to believe it took this long. It was in $140 of customer rolls I went through.
