Will Silver Toning Wear Off In Circulation From Wear.

Bertensgrad Pillar of the Community United States 1192 Posts	Posted 02/07/2016 4:49 pm I was wondering if a highly toned silver coin would lose most of its toning if it re entered circulation. Or would just the high points lose the toning with the fields remaining black. I'm not talking about rainbow toning just the end of the line black toning from honest age. I just have some walkers that look almost like they have black tar in the fields. While relatively light on the design. Although it sounds like heat treatment if the coin is solid black, if it's not toned that way both sides, then it may be some other environmental damage. Cascade Pillar of the Community United States 7390 Posts	Posted 02/07/2016 7:59 pm Of coarse. Dipping a coin will remove toning because it removes the the surface metal. Wear is the same thing. Sure the high points will go first but over time only the recesses around the devices will keep the toning as the devices protect the surface metal around it Report this Post to the Staff
