2016 Struck Through String Or Wire - Coin Community Forum

ramjethero Pillar of the Community United States 663 Posts	Posted 09/09/2016 6:30 pm I found these 2 2016 cent in a $25 box of Unc. cent from a local bank. I found the first one in one roll and the other in another roll. There were no other cents that were struck through in the box so I would think these were struck in succession or at least very close. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 09/10/2016 1:12 pm I agree it is a struck through. Coin scratches don't make corners quickly and have definite ends. I often wondered what makes these. Sometimes it is glue, thread, fiber, wire ETC. What ever is in the way of the strike will show on the coin. I found a coin once with what ever it is that does this still attached to the coin: I called it an ugly cent when I found it. (it was in an OBW roll) Then I looked closer and realize it was what was causing an issue during the strike. So I put it away with the fibers still attached. Report this Post to the Staff

I agree that something could get stuck on the die for more than one strike, but in this case it was something that maybe have been in the feeding, striking or even already on the planchet may have caused the issue.
