I wish they had used the grizzly (or some type of bear). They are very majestic creatures and with detailed engraving could look great on a coin.

The choice of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski's cabin, was a first so far as coin designs go. At least it would have been original.

Oh well, I guess the old Grizz in Yellowstone are getting just too much for Montana to handle.

Bears are without a doubt my favorite critters. I remember seeing some really good drawing of them too when they were trying to decide what to put on one of the nickels.

I used to have a screen saver of a submarine that broke through the ice (probably in OldDans back yard) and three polar bears were checking it out and seemed a bit confused about the whole thing. Guess they thought they had food for the rest of winter--hey man we just gotta bat this sucker over the head a few times and drag it out the water.

I can't let this pass. I think it's a crime not to have selected the cat. It graceful, fast, smart, agile and sleek. Wait....! maybe a cat wouldn't make a good representation of Montana..

Not so fast there Steve, there is one cat that would fill the bill, and it is black and white with a strong odor.

My appologies to my Montana friend on this forum. I was only kidding, really!

The Pole Cat has not been fairly represented on any coin and I can tell you from a first hand experience in 1973 that animal gets all DUE RESPECT from me. Actually no other animal COMMANDS the repect of the old pole cat and he/she has never been chosen to represent the good in anything or state! At least the possum gets a few jokes now and then!
