fortcollins Pillar of the Community United States 3679 Posts	Posted 01/06/2018 2:02 pm Just a guess, but it may be a Katrina coin. Most of the coins that were submerged in the toxic soup had to be cleaned before being accepted by banks or armored carriers for deposit. The copper cents fared better than the zinc cents. Copper cents came through with an odd orange coloring, but many of the zinc cents were too far gone to make it through the cleaning process. The surviving zinc cents have a lot of surface damage. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/06/2018 3:20 pm The planchet was not rinsed through before it was plated. Thus the bumps. When the tops of the bumps were off, the zinc is exposed, the zinc rot sets in. Spendable coin. Report this Post to the Staff
