Hi,
found a penny that looks like damage on the back side on the word UNITED between the T and E but when I hold the penny sideways not on the top. Was just curious about this one. Thanks

The line on the rim is a contact mark (damage) from circulation wear.

The devices flow the the rim from die wear.

Where there isn't a device, the die flow just happens.
Just depends on how advanced the die wear was, when your coin was struck.
