Leftglove New Member United States 9 Posts	Posted 12/17/2018 4:27 pm I'm new to collecting coins. I saw the mint mark on the quarter was a solid dot instead of the usual P, D or S. This could be worth no more than 25 cents but am curious if this may be an error of some sort. If anyone could help shed some light I'd be very grateful! Thank you Report this Post to the Staff

ty88ty2 Pillar of the Community United States 772 Posts	Posted 12/17/2018 5:14 pm in 1976, P mint-marks weren't present on Quarters yet, and it isn't a proof, so it is a D mint-mark. It is likely just a filled mint-mark from heavy use. It also looks to have taken a hit in the bottom left corner. Not worth more than a quarter in my opinion. Report this Post to the Staff

TJLang Valued Member 424 Posts	Posted 12/17/2018 8:55 pm what sometimes happens is the center of the D which is like a pin. Breaks off so the next punch looks like yours. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 12/17/2018 9:59 pm And the reason it is higher than the mint mark is that the pin/post that broke off that would normal form the center of the mint mark, took a deeper part of the die when it came off. Thus it is flowing above unevenly the mint mark. (no premium for these, just know what caused that to happen is the knowledge you received from them) Happens on digits and other closed devices.
