CUD

There are no Cud on your coin as Cud involves the Rim, area shown below the jacket shows a damage, gouge.

Not a gouge. Note the "crack" runs all the way into the rim.

It could be a Rim to Rim Die Crack, but much better images will be needed.

Pretty nice die crack, but photos not quite sharp enough to clarify if it is a Retained Cud or not. Thera are lots of die cracks under the bust on 1983's, and lots of Cuds down there, but very few Retained Cuds. Just one, and it's a tiny one I found and JC listed a couple weeks ago. Seems like those coins went mostly straight from die crack to Cud and skipped the whole Retained Cud thing. Likely due to this being on the hammer die and the die piece fell off quickly. There are some pretty interesting Retained Cuds on the reverse of 1983 though, if you are lucky enough to find one.

Or that area could be just a die gouge. It is on the field on that area.
