1881 Half Eagle - Damge, Error Or Fake/Counterfeit ? - Grade Would Be Helpful

Quartergeek New Member Canada 10 Posts	Posted 03/09/2019 1:25 pm I inherited this 1881 Half Eagle and just noticed that under the 'America' on the reverse that it appears there is a ridge. I would appreciate the your expert advice as to whether it is an error, counterfeit of a normal occurrence on half eagles. Also a estimate of the grade would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Quartergeek New Member Canada 10 Posts	Posted 03/10/2019 09:27 am ExoGuy, My weight scale has only one decimal place and I put the coin on three times. It came back 8.3 grams twice and 8.4 once. So I think it is probably a little over 8.3 grams. When I received this coin it was in a small leather pouch with red velvet lining so the red on the reverse may be from the pouch. I'm currently trying to upgrade my Canadian coin / note collection so am looking to sell my few American and foreign coins. When I seen the die break I was concerned that it might be counterfeit.
