Hello Everyone,

I found this 1979 p LMC that has this weird texturing. Does anyone know what might have caused it? It kind of looks like it might have been struck through something but I don't know what. Would love to have your thoughts on it.

Thank you!

Looks like it was affected by a mild acid bath. (perhaps a soda product for a time) On a normal acid bath they use a stronger acid that reduces the coin a lot faster. It can thin and narrow a coin if the stronger acid is used.

Probably just a slight reduction of weight on your coin. No premium. Just a damaged coin.

Thanks coop! Why would anyone dip a penny in acid? Science experiment maybe?

I did a lot of stupid things to cents when I was young, like leaving them on railroad tracks. Part of being a kid.

@coinfrog I have done that too! And then I would search for them and only be able to find like half of them!
