Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes:

I've an oddball question for you all related to storage & display of Canadian year sets. While buying some plastic year-set boards I picked up some intended for Canadian size (see photo) only to find that they didn't fit my 1959 coins. Didn't realize that coin sized had changed when the silver was removed in 1966 (was that the year?). So, what I'd like to know is, are there similar, inexpensive boards for older coins? I don't really want to go to the heavy (Capitol) brands. What about Air-Tite-type capsules for individual coins like the older halves, dollars and the smaller 5-cent (silver) coins?

What do you all use?

yes in 1968 the coins got smaller, I do think they make those plastic holders for 67 and back but not 100% sure

as far as storage I like to use these old whitman books or if I have multiples I will either use tubes or 2x2's in a binder, I also like to leave empty spots in the binder to let me know I need that one as seen in my haxby 1859 die pairs

@gidjit - I do the same thing for my 1859s but also place a holder for those that are slabbed and stored elsewhere.

@Biedercoins - those plastic set holders do come in two sizes. Check with your supplies vendor and inform which size you want. Also, I would not put nice PL coins in a Whitman album - too much chance they will get scratched by the slides.

If the dollar and the half dollar don't fit, then you have the nickel dollar set holders.. from 1968 and forward, from 1967 and earlier you want the silver dollar plastic set holders..

Exactly what I want! Since I posted initially, I've looked on ebay and have seen year sets with the earlier dates and so know that there are at least two different sizes. Now the question is, who sells them? My usual sources for coin supplies either don't have any Canada coin supplies or only offer these little plastics for '68 and after.

I was hoping that maybe one of y'all who collect by years might be able to point me toward somebody who stocks them. My whole goal with these is to show what the coins look like in particular years, i.e., all six coins for year 19XX. I suppose a version that is designed for Victorian sets or even George VI would be hoping for too much. A vendor in the US would be best for me as that's where I'm based, at least for now. [**If Trumpty-Dumpty gets re-elected this fall I may have to move just to retain my sanity!] ;-)

Gotta go for now but I'll check back tomorrow to see if anyone has any vendor suggestions. Thanks for the input so far.

@1960NYGiants: are you talking about 1859 penny varieties or are you interested in 1859 USA issues as well?

You may want to try these US supply dealers. I've had very good luck with Brooklyn Gallery:

Cripes! The RCM does stay busy resizing things, don't they. Thanks wolf!

Thanks Okie, I'll check these out too. Y'all are great. If I ask my kids a question they just say, "Google it".

No, just Canadian. I have a binder just for the Haxby and Turner varieties. It also includes varieties from the special sections of Charlton. The binder is 4" thick.
