decoinboy Valued Member United States 56 Posts	Posted 11/03/2008 11:14 pm Just found this cent in a bag of "unsearched wheat cents". It looks to me like a D/S. Any opinions are appreciated. Photo number 4 has the closest picture of the mintmark I could get. Report this Post to the Staff

desertgem Pillar of the Community United States 860 Posts	Posted 11/03/2008 11:40 pm It does seem to be close, but honestly, even photo 4 doesn't seem to have enough contrast to see the details of the upper curve of the "S" if it is there and not just surface. I know that often you can see details that is hard to photograph. Hang on to it and maybe a different lighting arrangement or focusing will show for a positive ID. Nice eyes! But don't let the 'unsearched' thing fool you. Half of the people trading bags of wheats don't sort them and look for these varieties. They pop them open looking for the 1909S VDB, 1910S, 1911S, 1914D, 1914S, 1922D, and 1931S and leave the rest in the bag. They claim not to have the 'time' to bother with the varieties.
