oriole Pillar of the Community Canada 5239 Posts	Posted 04/19/2026 2:43 pm This weighs 1.25 grams and has a diameter of 19 mm. I can read some letters on the reverse: CANTO and CIVITA. It suggests Canterbury as the mint but it appears that not all the letters are there. I can't identify the King's name, but it seems that there are letters AR, so possibly and Edward which would be consistent with the reverse design. Report this Post to the Staff

Sap Moderator Australia 16810 Posts	Posted 04/19/2026 5:45 pm This coin appears to be rotated double-struck, which is probably the cause of the difficulty in reading. Examples: on the cross-side, there's a disconnected arm of a cross at the 2 o'clock position between CIVI and TAS, and there's a pellet that's drifted onto the top of the cross, below the V. So there's been an approximate 45 degree rotation between those two strikes. I can't really make out anything on the obverse, or even properly tell which way is up; I suspect the double-striking may be the cause of this. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
