I was recently browsing
ebay auctions that were ending soon and came across this 1942
Washington quarter. Knowing to check this date for doubled dies, I was in the process of inspecting the reverse when I noticed that the bidding had jumped to $261. I thought to myself "I must be missing something" and, sure enough, this coin exhibits the FS-802
DDR, featuring a bold, massive spread on "Quarter Dollar". This price was already beyond what I was willing to spend, so I sat back and watched the show. After a small increase to the high $200s, you can imagine my shock when, in the final seconds, the price jumped to $1134.59. The seller, an experienced
ebay coin dealer with over 600,000 sales, must be wondering what he missed.
