I've seen some listed on different websites and was wondering if anyone knows if these are early releases, or are they replicas? The US Mint doesn't have them listed for sale.
They are only sold from the mint to a group of companies that the resell them to the public and investors. Only the proof coins and the burnished W mintmark coins are sold on their website if I am not mistaken. The bullion Silver Eagle coins went on sale Jan 19 I believe.
The "Burnished Uncirculated Satin Finish" and the "Proof" sold directly from the Mint is all I "usually" buy. The raw Uncirculated Eagles sold to dealers in the "Green Monster Boxes" and then out to the public is not something I've participated in until last year. That was the only way to get a Silver Eagle P.E.R.I.O.D. ......so I broke down and bought a slabbed graded MS-69 to at least have representation of some kind for the year 2009. I do not intend to buy any more of the raw Silver Eagles again, provided that the Mint resumes production of the Proofs and Burnished Uncirculated Satin Finish ASE's for 2010 and beyond.
AnyASE is still a very beautiful coin.......but my preference is just with the others. More expesive mind you, but also much nicer IMHO.
