I was wondering when searching for errors and varieties on cents what if any magnification is the best to you. I'm sure this, to a point, is a matter of need or taste, but Just looking for some ideas and pointers. Thanks all.

Personally, I scan my coins with a 10x loupe. That still allows me to see the entire coin and if anything there is worthy of a closer look, it will jump out at you. If I really need to get in there closer, then I pull out a 12X-15X loupe. If I can't tell something is worth a closer look under 10X, it probably isn't worth the time.

I pretty much do all of my searching with a 16X but I can still see almost all of a cent so as long as I'm not looking at larger coins I'm good.

I started out with a 10x many, many years ago.Now my eyes are not as good as they once was so I use a 14x for error and variety searching. If I was not searching errors and varieties I would probably use a 10x.
