A friend at work brought this in for my help. The story is it was handed down through his family - at one point someone scratched a tiny 1776 of what we guessed is the obverse. I was only able to get a descent scan of the reverse.

Scan after playing contrast:

Any information on this?

It is a Hungarian Taller (Thaler in Austrian).1776 could very well be the correct date.
