Surely they will go HIGHER now..just got word the PROOF Eagle is SOLD OUT..just checked US Mint pages, and, yes, it's true....watch those single prices go up, up, up....
Glad there are 4 sitting in my sets!BTW, DNA, all 4 of my reverse proofs have minor blemishes...no die cracks, but, irritating scuff lines in areas(reverse lower letters, shield)...not a bog deal, as they would most likely grade PF69 still, but, I was hoping for a flawless specimen to keep....

The other coin in my "lemon-pick" Set is a 2011(S) bullion with a slightly off-center (but not nicked or spotted) rim. Like the RP's die break, only obvious under a loupe. Luckily, all my 2011-S's had nice rims. If I'd had an "off" 2011-W in this Set, that would have been an easy swap-out...  Nice to know the 2011-W ASE Proofs I'm giving as Christmas gifts are already out of stock! |

People are switching the 2011 proofs fron their sets for the proofs from the mints stock, NOW I see why they might of decided to stop the sale so unexpected like!!!......

DNA - I like collecting the burnished myself and for the longest time I thought that slight off center strike is what determined a 69 from a 70 but after looking at many slabbed examples I have come to a simple conclusion, An off center strike and rough transition from the reeded edge to the rim is a 69 if you or I send in a coin like this. For people that due tons of grading, these coins are passed as 70`s -if the fields look good dont mind the edge. I see a lot of this with the 2006 w and I think that is why PCGS would not grade any 70 for the longest time. look at pics on ebay of the 2011 w SAE the tops all have edge problems. I bought an NGC MS 70 and the top edge is not right. Also bought 2 raw from the mint as soon as they were released and both had the rims off center and scratched. |

To improve what? The "unexpected stop the sale" was after they had minted the 3rd highest quantity since 1986. Watching the numbers it was well known that they were reaching their max. They cheated. Multiple names, addresses, and payment cards. In theory, I could have ordered 35 if I had my immediate family working for me.

Typical of the mint to not gouge the customer. I encouraged everyone I could to buy the sets, I am the only person I know personally who bought any, and would guess that the computer savvy and dishonest were able to score more sets. I think prices will hold up, and follow in the footsteps of the 20th anniversary sets, but would not be surprised to see some shy away as you can buy an ounce of gold, or 60 oz. of silver or more for the cost of a nice graded set of 2011 ASE's. DNA--if not for your post, I would not have re-examined my coins...sure enough, in the 2011-W I put in MY set to keep, as it is blemish free,(WAS blemish free!) I think I found the Off-Center rim you mention...it tapers from normal @ date, to quite thin at opposite end, peaks at the E in LIBERTY...while within specs, it IS noticible, thanks to you...time to swap it...thanks for the tip! Question for the slab experts
Are these sets suppose to be consecutive serial numbers.
The numbers in the slabs pictured are close .. but not consecutive

Great question GR58...I like the idea that if a slabbed set would be taken as authentic, all 5 serial #'s must be in sequence...makes a "pure" set...out of sequence= mixed by owner...now THAT should be a "rule" for selling full sets, but, since the MINT does not keep track of the "serial number"(strike order) of the coins, it won't happen....each 25th anniversary set should have had a unique serial# to prevent mix n match sets!  |

You're in luck, you can still buy a new 2011-W Unc. from the Mint, in the same capsule even. As for me, though, well there are a bunch of 2011(S) MS-70's on ebay, slabbed from S.F. monster boxes...  PS: One of the big local dealers (who sends tons of stuff in to PCGS) seems to think my Reverse Proof could get PGGS PR-69 even with the (tiny) die break (the rest of the coin is really sharp, even under my 16x loupe). Are rim issues that common on the ASE? I was just looking at my beater 1989 that I bought recently to have around and noticed an evenly moving/rounded scratch, clearly from the mint process and on the left side right at the L. Whatever it is starts on the edge of the rim and slowly moves inward down to the sun and stops where the rim ends before it actually hits the coin face or sun. Also, it has that extra sharpness on rim edge, at the L as well. Whats the difference between off center and misaligned? I know I've seen an awfully lot of Kennedy's misaligned, but that's because I go through so many. Edited by everything
